Kate and I were lucky so see part of a large Torajan funeral. Funerals are central to all life and the agricultural economy on Sulawesi. with up to 300 head of Cattle being sacrificed at a large funeral it’s easy to see why a funeral is a pivotal economic event.
Two of the photos below show the few seconds after a large OX was sacrificed with very heavy knife blow to the underside of the neck , a truly shocking sight to witness.
